Lighthouse Docents Needed! In March, with increased daylight, warmer weather and the first signs of spring, Admiralty Head Lighthouse opens its doors for the season of operation. Docents are volunteers who support the lighthouse through working in lighthouse related activities that enhance the WSU lighthouse program and the visitors experience. These activities also support effort in the park for State Parks. No membership dues are required. Docents are involved in work as host, gift shop, fort and lighthouse guides, wedding committee members, history committee members, Docent Council members, volunteer scheduling, wood working, interpretive display design, heritage garden planting and maintenance, lighthouse rehabilitation and all other activities relating to the WSU Lighthouse Docent program at Admiralty Head Lighthouse. Docents usually work duringhours that the lighthouse is open to the public. No experience is needed to work at the lighthouse. It's a fun way to become involved in the community and to work in a beautiful old building. Training is offered to introduce new docents to the lighthouse staff and teach them all they need to know. Advance training is also available. The lighthouse is open to the public through a cooperative agreement between Fort Casey State Park and the Washington State University Island County Extension Office. If you are interested or have questions, please call the lighthouse att 240-5584 or email AdmiraltyHeadLighthouse@gmail.com. |
